FACT FINDING TO PREPARE GF YOUTH DELEGATION 2027

The Global Foundation for Social Harmony and Sustainable Development (GFoundation) has nominated a delegate to attend the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) in Nairobi, Kenya, taking place from 8 to 12 December 2025.

The decision to appoint long-time activist Ms. Angela Lomosi to attend the seventh session of the UNEA-7 was made by members attending the GFoundation’s Annual General Meeting last August.

Lomosi has life-long experience with delegations that comes with being involved in regional or global delegations to UN bodies, especially those from the African region.

According to GF President Winston Gereluk, one of her prime purposes in attending UNEA-7 will be to help GFoundation prepare a youth delegation from Alberta, Canada to take part in UNEA-8 in 2027. “I will be on a fact-finding mission to prepare the way and to better assess what is needed for a youth delegation to come to Kenya and become involved in the proceedings of the United Nations,” says Lomosi.

“It will also be an opportunity for participants to interact with people from throughout the world on key envioronment issues”, she says.

Gereluk said that in early 2026, his Board will consider the feasibility of the youth project and how to select youth delegates from current volunteers or from those who become volunteers for the purpose of the project.

To qualify for the global experience, youth nominees would have to agree to become part of UNEA’s preparatory process leading up to the 2027 gathering. This would involve a number of Zoom meetings, as well as taking part in the GFoundation’s fundraising efforts for the project.

Although the GF’s youth project appears suited for those attending post secondary institutions, Gereluk believes that anyone within the age guidelines may consider the possibilities.

“The United Nations considers ‘youth’ to be anyone 30 years old or less, and any person with a passion for learning through practical efforts would be welcome,” Gereluk says.

UNEA is a central decision-making body of the United Nations on a broad range of environmental issues. GFoundation is an accredited organisation to UNEA, which means it’s representatives can participate in activities of civil society to influence government decision-making. The theme of the meeting this December will be Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet.

GFoundation intends to link its local actions for protecting watersheds and wetlands within the UN designated Beaver Hills Biosphere (BHB) in central Alberta, Canada to those undertaken by national and global communities.

Whomever is selected for the project will join civil society efforts at the UNEA to help shape a world vision for Youth which will be linked to local actions.

Recently GFoundaton has issued satements about its work with frogs in the Biosphere and continues its efforts to promote biodiversity in Alberta.
