Boreal Chorus frogs will provide a focus for discussions at the Annual General Meeting of the Global Foundation for Social Harmony and Sustainable Development (GF) scheduled for 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 27 in Beaver County.

A frog habitat work bee will take place at GF immediately after the meeting, and everyone is invited to help in whatever way they can. While some of us will work on improving the ‘frog hotels,’ others will be asked to sow native seeds and introduce native plants around newly planted trees in the frog habitat.

The event will also help protect a wetland, enhance biodiversity and help Canada meet its global climate change obligations.

The day will end with the customary GF campfire potluck supper to which everyone is invited. (see below for details).

The tiny boreal chorus frog became a celebrity after the GF’s 1st communication about it last year (CLICK HERE), which was followed by efforts to protect its habitat. Since then, the frog has been a centerpiece of GF strategies for wetland conservation.

GF’s goal is to improve monitoring of various species of animal and plants in the Beaver Hills Biosphere, including frogs. GF has recently set up a program with its Miquelon Watershed Stewardship Committee (MWSC) to assess tree planting relative to tree losses, in its area of the Biosphere.

The GF has joined with the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) and Services for Environmental Sensor Research (SENSR) to establish a monitoring process. A GFoundation ‘Wildlife Monitoring Group (WMG) has been created, which recently captured the notice of the Canadian Environmental Network’s biodiversity caucus (CLICK HERE).
