This tree planting event has the name ‘Great Divide’ because it separates two major watersheds. It will highlight the urgency of tree planting in the face of environmental and water crises. It will direct attention to the need for tree planting on a much larger scale, along with other measures to protect the globally significant wetlands in BHB.

You can help by purchasing 50/50 wetland raffle tickets below.

Land holders, dignitaries and organisation representatives will be invited to join activities, along with family and friends.

The event is being organised in consultation with Beaver, Camrose, Leduc and Strathcona municipal counties, along with a range of conservation and other organisations.

Sarah Skinner, Watershed Programs Manager of the Battle River Watershed Alliance (BRWA) says that her organization is pleased to support the 2nd Great Divide planting event and the continued work of the Miquelon Watershed Stewardship Committee.

“Community initiatives that support landscape health and biodiversity “are at the heart of watershed stewardship. Working together across the Great Divide strengthens our collective efforts.”

“The Great Divide is a unique place where land stewardship directly shapes two major watersheds,” says Scott Millar, Executive Director of the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NSWA).

“Events like this show how collective action can make a meaningful difference by supporting natural water storage, reducing erosion, and strengthening the resilience of the landscape. It’s a great example of how local action contributes to watershed-scale outcomes.”

Winston Gereluk of Global Foundation says the Great Divide planting has gone ahead, despite financial challenges that many environmental and conservation groups are facing.

With this message the Global Foundation is initiating a 50/50 raffle to raise funds for the June 07 tree planting and other events later this year by the MWSC.

“Supporters can help by purchasing 50/50 tickets below & by encouraging others to do so”.

The winner will take half the Grand Christmas Jackpot, with the other half going to tree planting for wetlands.
