{"id":2416,"date":"2024-10-22T13:59:16","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T19:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gfoundation.ca\/staging\/7325\/?post_type=news&#038;p=2416"},"modified":"2024-10-22T14:45:00","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T20:45:00","slug":"unbio","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/gfoundation.ca\/staging\/7325\/news\/unbio\/","title":{"rendered":"Alberta\u2019s biodiversity survey appeases GFoundation petition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">16th UN Biodiversity Conference, in progress<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"mobileWidthFormating wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>October 22, 2024:<\/em><\/strong> On the opening days of the 16<sup>th<\/sup> UN Biodiversity Conference in Colombia the Global Foundation for Social Harmony and Sustainable Development (GFoundation) has welcomed the Alberta government\u2019s recently launched consultation on biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1r6mYgG58nvCUhy6jIH7Ocof495l091jo\/view\"><strong>Click Here<\/strong><\/a> for the invite from Alberta\u2019s ministry of Environment and Protected Areas about the province&#8217;s nature strategy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cAmid few voices last year calling for such a consultation\u201d, says GFoundation Executive Director Lucien Royer, \u201cwe launched our biodiversity <a href=\"https:\/\/gfoundation.ca\/staging\/7325\/biodiversity-crisis\/\">website petition<\/a>\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAlberta has yet to set objectives, timelines, or targets for biodiversity that link with proposals by our national government and global processes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GFoundation is pleased that several groups are calling on their memberships, supporters, contacts and the public to respond to the <strong>Government\u2019s request for feedback by November 07, 2024.<\/strong>&nbsp; See: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/nature-strategy-engagement\">Nature strategy engagement | Alberta.ca<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YOU &#8211;&nbsp; <strong><em>Individual, or part of a group<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; are invited to consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/cpawsnab.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/CPAWS-Survey-Guide-to-Nature-Strategy-Survey.pdf\">survey guide<\/a> produced by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS Alberta) and to view the presentation at its recent AGM: <a href=\"https:\/\/action.cpaws.org\/s\/7480069\/qxSDLw4Xj\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;In 2022 the GFoundation called for a <a href=\"https:\/\/gfoundation.ca\/staging\/7325\/news\/gfoundation-calls-for-a-stronger-commitment-to-biodiversity-targets-by-all-levels-of-government\/\">stronger commitment by all levels of government<\/a> to the implementation of targets by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/un-biodiversity-conference-cop-15\">UN COP15 Biodiversity Conference<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;At the time, GF called on Alberta\u2019s Minister of Environment, as well as Alberta municipalities to strengthen their connections to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbd.int\/nbsap\/\">Canada\u2019s National Biodiversity Strategies &amp; Action Plans (NBSAPs)<\/a> &#8211; a process of the UN\u2019s Biodiversity Convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Convention on Biological Diversity&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iatp.org\/cop16-cali\">16th Conference of the Parties<\/a> has just begun in Cali, Columbia from October 21 to November 1, 2024.
