GFoundation Calls On Volunteers To Join Tree Planting On June 4th Amidst Climate Crises

15,000th tree planted by the end of 2023

Volunteers with the Global Foundation for Social Harmony & Sustainable Development (GFoundation) will launch a national tree planting initiative on June 4th at the organization’s headquarters located in the UN- designated Beaverhills Biosphere east of Edmonton, Alberta.

“We are inviting volunteers to join the yearly tree planting at our headquarters in Alberta, and to confirm it by sending a message to [email protected],” said GFoundation President Winston Gereluk. “Our Foundation hopes to plant its 15,000th tree by the end of 2023.”

In addition, GFoundation has partnered with the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC), whose Director has appealed to members and seniors across the country to also plant trees on June 4th wherever they live in Canada. They are also asked to register their planting with GFoundation as part of building the new ‘CURC National Forest’.

Trees planted by the GFoundation and CURC will be tallied in evaluations for C02 sequestration that will occur over the decades.

The joint tree planting kick-off on June 4th coincides with the beginning of World Environment Week, which will connect Canadian activities to tree planting efforts taking place around the world.

A recent wildfire that almost destroyed GFoundation’s headquarters has strengthened its resolve to scale up tree planting activities, as an antidote to the potential impacts of devastating changes in the earth’s climate.

GFoundation tree planting in Alberta will take place on wetland restoration sites, pilot & experimental plots, and nurseries on two watersheds and moderately-sized fields. “These learning exercises aim to shed light on tree planting, elsewhere,” said Gereluk.

“We are inviting as many volunteers as possible to come out this year, promising them a productive and enjoyable day, complete with the camaraderie and socializing that develops around tree planting”.
